Guide on How to Apply for A Canadian Student Visa

The Government of Canada offers the opportunity to Indian students to study in the country, but few requirements need to be done, such as obtaining a Study Permit and a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). Let’s study it in detail.

What is a study permit?

A study permit is a document or permits issued by the Citizen and Immigration (CIC) which authorizes you to study in Canada.

Your study permit always has a visitor visa or Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). Please keep in mind that a study permit is a document that permits you to study in Canada, while a visitor visa or ETA allows you to get into Canada. Documents required to obtain a study permit

 Letter of acceptance from your education institution, and a valid passport or travel document Proof that you have enough money to support yourself or any accompanying member while you’re in Canada Proof that you have sufficient money to pay for your tuition fees, living expenses for yourself, and any accompanying family member who stays with you in Canada.

You must also have enough money for return transportation for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada.

Be a lawful and well-behaved citizen with no criminal record and not pose a threat to the security of Canada (you may be asked to provide a police certificate)

You must not have any major health issues (you may need to complete a medical exam)

You will also have to give an interview at the Canadian embassy or consulate.

Student Direct Stream  

 Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada launched the Study Direct Stream (SDS), which helps Indian students applying to universities and colleges in Canada get faster visa processing. It generally takes 2-3 months to get visa processing done in the usual way. SDS helps students from India obtain their visas in 4-6 weeks.

However, you may need a few additional documents if you choose to apply through SDS. You can ask for guidance on this from your IDP counsellor.

Applying for an online visa

You can apply for your online student visa application using the CIC official website. You can apply up to three months before your tentative date of travel to Canada. Don’t forget that your application date is the date when you pay your application fee.

English language requirements

To obtain your Canadian visa, you’ll have to give evidence of having a good command of the English language. This generally means passing a secure English language exam to be able to prove your proficiency in the English Language. The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the world’s most popular English language proficiency test for study, work, and migration, with millions of tests being taken every year.
